Those who suffer from the effects of overly large breasts often not only experience pain and discomfort, they may also be extremely self-conscious in social situations. Breast reduction surgery is designed to get rid of excess fat, tissue, and skin from the breasts, thereby creating a smaller bustline that’s more proportionate to the body frame. Dr. Jeff Scott and Dr. John Leikensohn can help you attain your breast reduction goals.
To schedule an appointment for breast reduction surgery from our Sarasota, Bradenton, and Tampa Bay, Florida-area plastic surgeons, please contact The Plastic Surgery Center.
Breast reduction is a commonly-performed procedure that can help patients who suffer from a range of issues caused by overly large breasts. These include:
Our doctors at The Plastic Surgery Center offer breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammaplasty, to address these issues and give you smaller breasts that are in better balance with the overall shape of your body.
Breast reduction surgery typically involves an anchor-shaped incision made around the areola (the dark-pigmented area of skin surrounding the nipple), down to the underside of the breast. One of our plastic surgeons will remove excess tissue, skin, and fat from the area, and reposition the nipples to a higher location. Sometimes, liposuction may be used in breast reduction surgery in order to remove excess fat deposits from the area of the armpits. Some patients may only need liposuction to successfully attain breast reduction.
The entire breast reduction surgery procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Most breast reduction procedures are completed in about three to four hours.
Patients can typically expect some swelling and discomfort during recovery; however, these effects should diminish as the breasts continue to heal, and any residual pain can be managed with medication. A surgical bra will likely need to be worn for a few weeks after surgery to facilitate the healing process. Patients should also expect some level of visible scarring after breast reduction surgery. Although scarring after any kind of surgical procedure is inevitable, our plastic surgeons are highly adept at minimizing the appearance of scars. As with any type of surgery, there are risks involved with breast reduction procedures. One of our plastic surgeons will go over risks and all other aspects of breast reduction surgery with you in detail before the procedure. Patients who are breastfeeding or considering breastfeeding in the future should discuss this with one of our doctors at the initial consultation.
Breast reduction is known to have some of the highest success rates of any plastic surgery procedure available. Drs. Jeff Scott and John Leikensohn look forward to helping you overcome the effects of overly large breasts and giving you a smaller bustline that makes you look and feel terrific.
