Breast Lift

A variety of factors can contribute to the breasts taking on a sagging appearance. Natural aging and recent weight loss are common causes, as well genetic disposition, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. A breast lift is an effective remedy for breasts that are exhibiting signs of sag and droop. The procedure can eliminate excess skin and restore the breasts to a higher position. A breast lift can also be combined with breast implants to add more volume and contour to the breasts.

Breast Lift Surgery

Breast lift surgery typically involves an incision made around the dark-pigmented area surrounding the nipple (areola), following down to the underside of the breast. Excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is tightened. One of our plastic surgeons will then reshape the breasts and move the nipples to a higher position.

A breast lift usually takes about two hours or less and can be performed on an outpatient basis. This procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia.

Breast Lift Recovery

Some bruising and swelling can be expected for about two to three weeks after breast lift surgery; however, these effects will continue to fade as the breasts heal. Pain and discomfort during the recovery process can be alleviated with medication. Although surgical procedures typically result in scarring, our plastic surgeons are highly adept at making any residual scarring as minimally visible as possible. Scars from breast lift usually fade significantly after several months. Normal daily routines can typically be resumed after about one week. Drs. Scott and Leikensohn advise patients to avoid strenuous activities during the first few weeks after surgery to reduce pressure on the breasts and allow them to heal properly.
